Alzheimer’s Diagnostics and More: New Spin-Off “attyloid”
Spin-Off Focuses on Protein Aggregates
Jülich/Düsseldorf, 7 March 2018 – A new company named “attyloid GmbH” was founded as a spin-off by Forschungszentrum Jülich and Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf (HHU) a few days ago. The researchers involved have developed a method of measuring tiny protein aggregates with unprecedented sensitivity. The technology, called “sFIDA”, can be used for the early detection of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, for example. It is also suitable for the quality control of biopharmaceuticals such as enzymes and antibodies. The development of the sFIDA technology was funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research through the VIP programme. For the spin-off, the researchers received financial support from the Helmholtz Enterprise initiative and are currently also funded by the North Rhine-Westphalian START-UP programme, which supports universities in founding spin-offs.
