How business angels think
The 12th BIO.NRW Business Angel Congress (BAC) took place in Düsseldorf on March 7, 2023. The event was held at PLACE TO BE The Forty Four in Düsseldorf, situated above the rooftops of the city, and was once again completely sold out.
The BAC is not only an established event in North Rhine-Westphalia for exchanges between life science investors, it is also regularly attended by international guests. A who’s who of the industry gathered again this year to make contacts and share knowledge.
The event was opened with a video message from Mona Neubaur, the Minister for Economic Affairs, Industry, Climate Action and Energy of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. This was followed by the first speakers on the topic of this year’s event: How do Investors think? – Get a grip on their decision-making. The accomplished speakers provided insights into their thinking and actions during brief and entertaining presentations. The speakers included Karl Collins from Bayer | Crop Science, Christina Hertel from EIT Health, and Thomas Raueiser from NRW.Bank.
The two panel discussions also featured illustrious guests such as Roland Oetker, Johannes Velling, Bert Klebl, and Carl von Halem, who engaged in insightful discussions on topics such as How much of a sprint will do for Germany to catch up? It was apparent to all participants that there is great potential to position biotechnology, along with its start-ups and companies, even more strongly in the market and to bring it to the attention of the public.
During coffee breaks, these and many other questions were discussed in a lively setting before the host of the event, Bernward Garthoff, opened the dinner with these concluding words: “We look forward to your feedback, but only if you enjoyed it……… and we would be happy to welcome you again next year.”
