BMBF funding measure:

„Prävention und Versorgung epidemisch auftretender Infektionen mit innovativer Medizintechnik“

In the field of medical technology, promising product, process or service innovations for the prevention and treatment of epidemic infections (such as the SARS-CoV-2 outbreak) are being funded in joint projects.

Funding for research and development of urgently needed therapeutics against SARS-CoV-2
The purpose of the funding is, on the one hand, the clinical development of drug candidates that are explicitly directed against SARS-CoV-2. These can be, for example, monoclonal antibodies and other biologicals or small molecule compounds. In addition, clinical development of new therapeutic approaches for the treatment of severe courses of COVID-19, such as cell-based approaches in addition to the aforementioned groups of drugs, is also needed. Funding is provided for work necessary to manufacture investigational drugs according to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and to conduct clinical trials for safety and efficacy.  Individual projects of the research-based pharmaceutical and biotechnological industry and interdisciplinary collaborative projects are eligible to apply. In collaborative projects with university and non-university research institutions, the participation of an industrial partner is required. Submission deadline: 17th of February 2021.

Forschungszulagengesetz – Tax incentives for research
The Federal Cabinet has decided to provide tax incentives for research and development (R&D) in innovative companies from January 1, 2020.
Every company has a legal claim to this support if the conditions of the “tax incentives” are met.
Irrespective of the size and sector of the company, the eligible expenses are 100% of the personnel costs including employer’s contribution or 60% of the contract value (total costs; including material costs) in the case of contract research. The funding rate is 25% in each case. With a maximum assessment limit of 2 million euros per year and company, the maximum grant is 500,000 euros. This tax subsidy reduces the company’s tax liability or can also be paid out if less tax is incurred than the R&D expenditure.
Reserach support from 01.01.2020 possible

Digital now
In today’s working and economic world, digital technologies and know-how are decisive for the competitiveness and future viability of companies. To enable small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to exploit the economic potential of digitalization, the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy (BMWi) is supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with its “Digital Jetzt – Investment Promotion for SMEs” program. The program offers financial subsidies and is designed to encourage companies to invest more in digital technologies and in the qualification of their employees.
