The BioSC is a regional competence center for integrated, interdisciplinary research for sustainable bioeconomy. Since 2010, RWTH Aachen University, HHU Düsseldorf, the University of Bonn and Forschungszentrum Jülich have been pooling their expertise here. Multidisciplinary projects, where natural and engineering sciences work at eye level with economics and social sciences, develop innovative solutions

a) for the sustainable production of plants for food and feed and for material use

b) for the conversion of renewable raw materials into valuable substances with the help of new (bio)chemical and biotechnological methods and biorefinery processes and

c) on the economic feasibility and social acceptance of the bioeconomy.

The BioSC is funded by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia since 2013.
