Fast SARS-CoV-2 RNA extraction for high-throughput

BioEcho developed a rapid extraction protocol that reduces the isolation of SARS-CoV-2-RNA to just a few minutes. The speed of the extraction method contributes to faster COVID-19 assays as well as increased throughput.

The technology

The 5-minutes extraction method starts with instant virus lysis without incubation time followed by a single-step purification via centrifugation.

Unlike conventional bind-wash-elute methods, all impurities are retained by the purification matrix and the nucleic acids flow through untouched. This results in highly pure RNA for reliable RT-qPCR without inhibitory effects or carryover of reagents.

Advantages for diagnostic laboratories

The system is compatible with common transport media and the method has been routinely used in a variety of diagnostic laboratories since the beginning of the pandemic. The EchoLUTION Viral RNA/DNA Swab Kit recently received CE-IVD mark approval eliminating tedious validation processes for diagnostic routines.

To further increase sample throughput and reduce hands-on time, the workflow can also be automated.

SARS-CoV-2 PCR test within 70 minutes

The EchoLUTION Viral RNA/DNA Swab Kit can be combined with the Anchor SARS-CoV-2 PCR Kit v 2.0. This workflow allows completion of 96 SARS-CoV-2 PCR-based analyses within 70 minutes. Both products are CE-IVD marked independently as well as in combination. The Anchor PCR assay has been optimized for a fast workflow and high sample throughput, perfectly complementing the BioEcho extraction kit.
