Shaping the future with renewable materials – Renewable Materials Conference 2025
The Renewable Materials Conference will take place in Siegburg near Cologne from September 22 to 24, 2025. Organized by the nova-Institute, the conference is considered the world’s leading platform for innovative solutions for replacing fossil carbon sources with biogenic, CO₂-based, or recycled alternative materials. The conference brings together experts from industry, research, and politics and shows how technological and regulatory developments contribute to a sustainable circular economy.

The conference program is divided into five thematic areas:
The defossilisation of the chemical industry addresses alternative feedstocks, alternative naphtha, electric cracker and non-cracker commodity production via methanol and ethanol, biotechnology and biorefineries and more. In the area of fine chemicals, the focus is on the growing demand for bio-based specialty chemicals for cosmetics, adhesives, food, and additives. Fossil-free plastics will be discussed in presentations on biomass, CO₂ utilization, and recycling, with applications in packaging, automotive and consumer goods.
Political and economic framework conditions will be discussed under the EU Green Deal and in the context of sustainable carbon cycles. Another section is devoted to the biodegradability of plastics.
